Be Careful What You Wish For
Reading this web page: [link] ...made me wonder: Are there any stories where a character gets three wishes (or even one wish), and then thinks them through mindful of all that can go wrong, phrases his wishes very carefully, is not being too... more »

Hugo Gernsback
For more information on Hugo Gernsback check out a new biography available on Amazon. The document was found by me when we closed down Gernsback Publications in 2003. It was an old ms that I edited and produced as a book. Follow the link and you can go to the book and thanks to Amazon’s “look inside” feature, you can even get an idea of what it covers.... more »

Nicoll's Law savaging scienceblogs.com
I would just like everyone around these parts to feel relieved that we aren't likely to fall prey to the extended perfectly rational and not at all emotionally charged discussion of St**lth *n Sp*c* that is going on in the 'Built On Facts' blog over at [link]... more »

Feeding Arad Doman: tGS Spoilers
Chucky & Janica <janica.hin...@kolumbus.fi> found these unused words: ...I propose you and Timmette get married. A weenie for her whiny ways.

Time Travel in fantasy
It occurred to me that the idea of time travel, and all the ensuing complications and paradoxes and alternate timelines, don't necessitate a time machine. A magic spell that sends somebody back and forth in time could work just as well. Still, I'm hard pressed to come with examples of fantasy works that used time travel in this manner.... more »

Milford Workshop Week 2010
Yes, it's that time again. This is a post from Liz Williams re this year's Milford SF writers' workshop week. I've already booked my place. Note: what it doesn't say is that pieces are often sent by email before the week to enable some advance reading. This is not obligatory. Hope to see some of you there.... more »

I was just browsing amazon and I noticed there's another movie-tin of Do Androids Dream... and this one promises some restored pages. Does anyone know anything about this? I have the original tie, but I'm wondering if I need to purchase this latest edition? Will

Gregory Benford's Galactic Center
I've read three of Benford's books, two of them long ago: Timescape, of which I have fond memories, and The Stars in Shroud, of which I do not, though the only thing I recall vividly is the horror caused by the agoraphobic plauge. Also, I recently started the nion-Asimov Foundation trilogy, of which Benford wrote the first volume [1]. It's uneven; the... more »
