It could easily be the straw that broke the camel's back, but I don't think it's really any one thing so much as she's constantly being attacked from all sides and constantly embroiled in controversy. I can easily see her just having enough of it and wanting to go back to a more private life with family. Plus, as she said in her announcement, she's a lame duck and not in a position to be effective anyway.

I think it might actually be one, but not in the way people are thinking. It wouldn't surprise me at all if there's some sort of deal wherein she steps down as governor somewhat gracefully (though I would hesitate to call yesterday's speech graceful) before an indictment. Right now she looks, at least superficially, like she's resigning of her own volition. Some of that will stick with people even if embarrassing news comes out later.

She is NOT a lame duck. She has 2 more years to serve. She would only be a lame duck if someone else had been elected to succeed her.
The final years of most officeholders are in fact their most productive since they have no concerns about reelection and such. It's pretty cleat that something else is in play. We just have to wait to see what it is.

Oh yeah, great detective work. Typical rube comment "sounds very plausible!!!". Why don't you check some of the other utter nonsense on the website that broke this scoop. Out great leaders in Washington are counting on sheep like you to believe everything you read as long as it's published on the web.

I think she did it because she sees it as her best shot to win in 2012. -- ~ Seth Jackson

Rube THIS mf! The bitch is an underqualified moron who has been exposed as the useless douchebag she is. She doesn't even know what a lame buck is! She can't tell Katie Couric the name of one single national publication. She has been caught and is leaving to avoid the brutal onslaught that's on its way. hanks

Personally speaking, she was striking me as lamer and lamer all the time.

I though she was rather eloquent when she said: "An armed, nuclear armed especially Iran is so extremely dangerous to consider. That is not so, but because that's just a quick answer, I want to talk about, again, my record on energy - your ticket's energy ticket also. I think that this is important to come back to, with that energy policy plan, again, that was voted for in '05." It was a performance on par with Miss Teen South Carolina.
Palin's husband's membership in the separatist Alaska Independence Party, founded by a guy who truly hates America and everything she stands for, for YEARS becomes fair game.

At least he hasn't resigned in disgrace and can speak in complete sentences instead of unintelligible gibberish. But then you can't manage that, you fucking babbling illiterate cretin.
She'll now become the leader of the Republican party that everyone's been so "concerned" about in the left wing media.
She resigned to go national. She'll campaign and raise money for Republican candidates for the all-important 2010 mid-term elections.
By resigning, Sarah Palin is free from the restraints of office and the distractions of Democrat/left wing dirt diggers.
She's runnning for president, and like Ronald Reagan, she won't be vulnerable to attack by holding office while she's campaigning. If she finished her term in office, she wouldn't have time to build a good strong campaign for 2012. She also wouldn't be available for campaigning for the congressional mid-term elections in 2010.
She'll become a multi-millionaire on the lecture circuit. As she stated in her excellent speech, (that only those affaid of "what's next" "didn't undersand"), the other day, it has cost her family $500,000 just to set the record straight on the bogus and debunked ethics attacks by left wing planted, political operatives in Alaska. That situation is obviously not going to improve. An Obama administration Justice Dept. isn't going to investigate her attackers.
By leaving office, they can't "get her in the pocketbook".
If she were a Democrat, she wouldn't have this localized "media problem" and could both, serve as governor, and work for the party on a national level.
This is the best move for Sarah Palin, and it's the innovative, bold move of a leader. You wanted her out of the governorship, she's out. But -watch- out, you're not going to like what you asked for.

That would be true in the case of things like congressmen, who don't have term limits. Many governers however do have term limits and in some cases (I'm guessing it's the case in Alaska) they are limited to a single term. In that case she'd have been a lame duck since the day she took office.

Yes.

She had previously announced that she would not run for reelection. Thus, the lame duck status. -- ~ Seth Jackson

Oh, well then Peter's right, she's not really lame duck since she can run again if she decides she wants to stay in office and do so.
